C3KX-PWR-715WAC Cisco Power Supply for 3750 3560X Series

The Cisco C3KX-PWR-715WAC is more than just a standard PSU; it is an integral part of Cisco’s modular switch architecture for the 3750-X and 3560-X families. It offers a maximum output power of 715 watts, enabling it to handle both the switch’s core operational needs and Power over Ethernet (PoE) demands for connected devices. This capability makes it a strong choice for environments with high-power devices such as IP phones, wireless access points, and security cameras.

Built with Cisco’s rigorous engineering standards, the C3KX-PWR-715WAC is optimized for energy efficiency while delivering stable performance. It operates with an AC input voltage range that ensures compatibility with global power standards. Thanks to its hot-swappable feature, it can be replaced without powering down the entire switch, which is crucial for mission-critical networks where uptime is paramount.

Physically, the unit is compact and lightweight, making installation or replacement straightforward, even in crowded rack setups. Its front-facing design ensures quick access, while the integrated fan system provides adequate cooling to maintain optimal performance under continuous load.

Applications of the C3KX-PWR-715WAC Cisco Power Supply for 3750 3560X Series

The C3KX-PWR-715WAC is ideal for a wide range of enterprise and institutional applications, including:

• Corporate networks with high PoE requirements.
• University campuses and educational institutions running multiple IP endpoints.
• Healthcare facilities where constant uptime is critical for operational systems.
• Data centers requiring high-availability switching infrastructure.
• Retail environments with numerous connected PoS systems and IP surveillance cameras.

Its robust power output makes it suitable for switches configured in both standalone and stackable modes, ensuring consistent delivery even in demanding network setups.

Ports and Connectivity

While the C3KX-PWR-715WAC itself does not provide data ports (as it is a power module), it integrates seamlessly into the switch chassis, supplying the necessary electrical power to all network ports on the host device. It supports:

• Full PoE (Power over Ethernet) on multiple ports.
• Redundant power configurations when paired with a second PSU.
• Automatic load sharing in dual-supply setups.

This integration ensures that devices connected to Cisco 3750-X or 3560-X Series switches receive a stable and reliable power feed, enabling maximum uptime and performance.

Build Quality and Reliability

Cisco’s reputation for hardware reliability is evident in the C3KX-PWR-715WAC. The unit is constructed with industrial-grade components that meet stringent durability and performance criteria. The enclosure is made from robust materials designed to withstand the heat generated during continuous operation.

The built-in cooling fan ensures consistent airflow, keeping internal temperatures within safe limits. This extends the lifespan of the power supply and reduces the risk of unexpected failures. Additionally, Cisco’s extensive testing and quality assurance processes mean that each unit is designed to deliver reliable service over many years of operation.

How to Maximize Power Supply Lifespan in Cisco Switches

Even with a robust module like the C3KX-PWR-715WAC, proper maintenance ensures optimal longevity. Regularly clean the switch’s intake and exhaust areas to prevent dust buildup. Maintain appropriate ambient temperatures in your rack or server room, and ensure there’s adequate airflow around the switch. Avoid frequent power cycles, as this can stress electronic components over time.

Redundancy Planning with the C3KX-PWR-715WAC

For businesses that cannot afford network downtime, redundancy is essential. The 3750-X and 3560-X Series switches allow the installation of a second C3KX-PWR-715WAC or a compatible power supply module for 1+1 redundancy. In such setups, if one PSU fails, the other takes over instantly without service interruption. This feature is invaluable in mission-critical environments such as banking, healthcare, and online service providers.

Comparison with Similar Cisco Power Supplies

The C3KX-PWR-715WAC is the sweet spot for many deployments — offering enough power for most enterprise PoE requirements without the higher cost and energy consumption of the 1100W model.
